mama hiatus

Saturday, January 26th, 2013

It has been a long while since I’ve posted, though despite my silence I’ve been working away on projects. I’ve just been busy juggling life with two little ones and a business.

My proudest accomplishment this past year was the completion of my grandparent’s book, after 5 years of on/off progress.  It felt full circle to me to finally finish that book for my grandmother.  I started my business inspired by my family, in particular my grandfather who loved reminding us we came from good stock, so completing a book about their story felt wonderful.  And while my grandfather is no longer with us, my grandmother proudly shares her book with visitors and rereads it from time to time.

My next proudest accomplishment is about to be born!  We are expecting baby #3 literally any moment, and we are so excited.  Which leads me to my big news.  I have decided, after much thought and a trial period last summer, to begin life as a full-time mama.  For a long time I was scared to make this move…I love my work and having “my own thing” outside of mamahood.  But more recently I’ve felt overwhelmed and well, a bit scatter-brained.  Our kids are very close in age – 3.5, 2, and (almost!) newborn – and I guess you could say my mama hiatus is my sanity move.  I think I may come undone completely if I try to keep up my work schedule, too!  I’m not sure how long my hiatus will last, but I do know I need to take a break for a while.

If you have a project that is not time-sensitive and you’d like me to consider it post-hiatus, please get in touch!  If you have a project that requires photo scanning and bookmaking, please consider my colleague Molly at Seattle Photo Organizing.  If you are looking for wedding books, I don’t really have a great suggestion for you, but will let you know if I come across another resource I’d recommend.

Thank you for your support all these years, and for putting up with my silence these past months, too!

With gratitude and love,

. . . . .

OK, time for a quick update on our lives here at Good Stock.

I just had baby number 2 in January! A sweet little boy named Oren Robert. Although technically he’s not so little for an 8-week old…

Here are some pictures, taken by our friends at La Vie Photography. We love our new little being!

As for my cousin Emma (the one who really gets things done around here!) she got married in September (yay!) and her amazing wedding was recently featured in the Winter 2011 issue of Seattle Metropolitan Bride & Groom magazine.

We are excited to see what else 2011 has in store for us. But so far…oh so good!

grama, papa, christy with tofino sign

Tomorrow I am off to Tofino (my very favorite place!) for a few weeks of family time. So. Excited.

I love this old picture of my grandparents and my Aunt Christy up at Tofino. That driftwood Tofino sign is still there!

vacation + exciting news

Monday, September 7th, 2009

. . . . .

I’m on vacation! As you read this, I’m in Spain with my little family drinking vino, tasting tapas, and taking siestas. Life is very good.

My cousin Emma is officially in charge at Good Stock, so if you need anything these next 2 weeks, she’s your gal.

Also, I scheduled some blog posts of recent book projects I’ve been meaning to share, so check back here even though I’m out.

And finally…I have a teaser for some exciting news! We shipped some books on Friday that you will see in December on newsstands! That’s all I can say right now, but we’re very excited about it.

archiving ruthie’s first year

Tuesday, September 1st, 2009

. . . . .

OK, so now I know what it feels like. Now I really get why parents want to preserve the moments and memories of their child’s first year! So here is my plan for Ruthie’s year one.

We want to… 1) make something we can give her someday that captures her first year, and 2) keep it simple and doable, so we actually get it done! (I have slight fears she will be the bookmaker’s daughter with no books of her own.)

So the first thing we did is stamped her name and birth date on a Moleskine we’ve been keeping for her. Steven and I both write in it – not daily (not realistic!) but just enough.

I will definitely keep you posted on our progress. It’s so fun to make this for my own little girl!

whew, what a week

. . . . .

Wrapping up a busy but productive week. We shipped these 3 books yesterday and loved how they all turned out. A wedding accordion, a fortieth birthday book, and an 80th birthday book. Can’t show you the insides of the birthday ones – they’re surprises!

Happy weekend, everyone.

If you are on facebook you can now find Good Stock Press + Bindery and become a fan!

We’ll be adding some more books pics there and you can write on our wall and say hello.

Why? Because facebook is fun.

2009, here i come

Monday, January 5th, 2009

here i go

Highlights of 2008:

* getting to see my grandma almost every day
* celebrating my first wedding anniversary
* working with amazing people to tell their stories + honor their families
* buying a house
* getting pregnant! (baby due april/may 2009!)

This photo is from a memoir I did last year. We didn’t end up including it in the book because we didn’t know whose legs these were! But I love love this image and it captures exactly how I feel heading into 2009….

I can see the path ahead of me and I’m excited for the journey. I might approach said path a bit crooked and in my own unique way, but my arms are swinging and I am very happy.

to all who have supported this journey of mine…
