charlie, a 60th birthday book

August 18th, 2011

. . . . .

Here’s a fun 60th birthday book for a guy who loves to have fun. In fact, there were so many photos of Charlie having fun that we decided custom photo endsheets were in order. And we didn’t even use all the photos!

I love the opening page with his name on blue. We scanned an embroidered letterman-type jacket, and it has that vintage feel with the yellowed thread.

We also included notes from family and friends at the end of the book, as well as quotes from his wife and kids in their sections of the book.

Oh, and the bookmark! After we went to press someone found the ticket stub from the 1981 Rolling Stones concert Charlie and friends attended at the Kingdome in Seattle. So we scanned it and turned it into a bookmark. Why not?

Here’s another beautiful wedding photographed by Tec Petaja.

We loved the touch of purple – it was so fun working that into the book. I’m especially in love with the grey linen and silver stamping on the cover. And the hayfield photos, of course.

“Nesiophilia, the inordinate fondness and hungering for islands, may be a genetic condition.” – Edward O. Wilson

My uncle couldn’t agree more.

This book tells the story of my uncle’s island life in the Pacific Northwest. He grew up on Mercer Island, vacationed on Vancouver Island, and is now living on Whidbey Island. It was such a fun story to help him tell. I especially love all the old pictures and looking at life during those seemingly (much) simpler times.

Here’s a sweet wedding book we did recently for Keely and Michael. I loved their wedding. They were married in a beautiful old spanish-style church in San Luis Obispo, with touches of both classic and vintage. They used chocolate brown with beautiful purple flowers as the accent color.

For their book we went with chocolate brown fabric and gold stamping, and used a vintage stamp that matched the fonts on the inside of the book. We also did a custom endsheet using their initials and a vintage floral motif.

OK, time for a quick update on our lives here at Good Stock.

I just had baby number 2 in January! A sweet little boy named Oren Robert. Although technically he’s not so little for an 8-week old…

Here are some pictures, taken by our friends at La Vie Photography. We love our new little being!

As for my cousin Emma (the one who really gets things done around here!) she got married in September (yay!) and her amazing wedding was recently featured in the Winter 2011 issue of Seattle Metropolitan Bride & Groom magazine.

I just love photographs of kids. Seriously, how can you not smile looking at them? Here is a book we did a while back of sweet little Logan. I love all the light blues and greens we used, and of course all the quotes helping document this moment in his life. Air freshener makes him laugh? Whatever works!

It is cold and wintry in Seattle and we’re dreaming of sunshine! Here is a lovely book we did recently documenting an auction fundraiser in Hawaii. Oh, to be tan again…

This couple might look familiar…we featured their wedding on our blog when we designed the book for their first wedding. They recently had a second ceremony and we were honored to once again have the chance to help tell their love story.

The bride wore a fabulous green dress, so of course we couldn’t resist incorporating green in the book. Their dinner place cards featured woodland creatures, and the bride and groom’s seats were labeled “love birds” so we thought it would be sweet to add some bird graphics throughout the book.

For the binding we used a leather cover without chip board so it has a soft, almost paperback, feel to the book and you can see the rough edges of the leather. We love the contrast between the rough leather edges yet it feels very clean and modern.

Overall, it turned out to be a beautiful book, for a beautiful couple, with a beautiful story.
