. . . . .

Four years ago I was introduced to an amazing man who became a client and friend. A year ago today he passed away, and I realize I never shared this project we did together. So it seems fitting to share it today.

Here is the published version of The Colonel, a children’s story written and illustrated – but never officially published – by Bob’s father. Bob wanted to finally put it together for his grandchildren to enjoy. It is a lovely story.

30th birthday

. . . . .

This was such a cool project. Casey’s parents approached us to make a book about her life for her 30th birthday. After talking with her parents, we quickly discovered what an incredible force Casey is…and immediately felt the pressure to make her book just as extraordinary! The design concept was an A-Z encyclopedia of her life with words, photos, and illustrations for each letter describing a different part of her. It was a very lighthearted approach, and we love how it came together!

. . . . .

“Nesiophilia, the inordinate fondness and hungering for islands, may be a genetic condition.” – Edward O. Wilson

My uncle couldn’t agree more.

This book tells the story of my uncle’s island life in the Pacific Northwest. He grew up on Mercer Island, vacationed on Vancouver Island, and is now living on Whidbey Island. It was such a fun story to help him tell. I especially love all the old pictures and looking at life during those seemingly (much) simpler times.

I just love photographs of kids. Seriously, how can you not smile looking at them? Here is a book we did a while back of sweet little Logan. I love all the light blues and greens we used, and of course all the quotes helping document this moment in his life. Air freshener makes him laugh? Whatever works!

spence + carli

. . . . .

Talk about a fun-loving couple. Carli came to us wanting to document her and Spence’s relationship from the first date to their recent engagement. She provided us with heaps and heaps of ticket stubs, notes they had written to each other, photos, playbills…all sorts of sweet memorabilia from their love story.

We used bright colors that matched their bright personalities. While proofing her book Carli kept saying, “more colors! brighter! more memorabilia!”…so that’s exactly what we did. We used some artwork from their save the date announcement for the cover, and paired it with an “i love you” endsheet in typewriter font.

We love how it turned out!

gift book week! idea #1, a family cookbook

Monday, October 5th, 2009

. . . . .

Believe it or not, the holidays are approaching! And not surprisingly, we think custom books make great gifts.

So to inspire you, we’re showcasing a different book idea each day this week on our blog. We hope you’ll find a perfect gift idea here and get in touch. There’s still time to make your custom book for the holidays!

So here is our first idea for you…a family cookbook!

Last Christmas, this was Ali’s gift to her dear Italian grandmother. She gathered her grandmother’s recipes, along with photos, cooking tips from Gram, and inspiring cooking quotes and called it Gram’s Kitchen. Her Gram loved it so much she ordered copies for everyone!

I especially love the tribute page where Ali thanks her Gram and all the pioneering, strong women of her family.

here!
